The National Migration Institute (INM), together with the National Guard, carried out an operation at the Tulum-Playa del Carmen police filter where federal agents were verifying public transport and cargo units, as well as private vehicles in order to verify the legal stay in Mexico for foreigners.

It was for approximately an hour and a half that the officers randomly reviewed documentation, however, they did not arrest any person or make any other arrests.

When questioned about the operation, the immigration agents only said that they are orders from the federation and that it is their superiors who report on these types of actions, while those from the National Guard indicated that they do not have the power to intervene, so They were only present in case someone committed an act of aggression.

Immigration agents will carry out random operations more frequently in various parts of the ninth municipality. It is worth mentioning that this year the National Migration Institute, with the support of the armed forces, the municipal police, the Army and the National Guard, has been seen carrying out interventions in different points of the municipal capital, where they have detained foreigners, mainly of Argentine and Central American origin.

It is worth remembering that in recent months the authorities have rescued dozens of people of foreign origin, including infants, who were deprived of their liberty in municipalities such as Benito Juárez and Solidaridad.
