Hurricane ‘Otis’: Highway to Zihuatanejo and northern bypass reopened

The Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation deployed workers and machinery to repair the affected sections of the Acapulco-Zihuatanejo highway, after the passage of Hurricane Otis.

The Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) reported, this Tuesday, October 31, that circulation was fully restored on the Northern Bypass of Acapulco and a landslide was rehabilitated in the Pie de la Cuesta to Coyuca section of the Acapulco-Zihuatanejo highway, which suffered damages as part of the ravages of Hurricane Otis.

Currently, the North Bypass of Acapulco has two provisional crossings, one at the detour at kilometer 8, as well as on the bridge located at km 17+150. On the night of Monday, October 30, vehicular traffic was allowed at this last point.

SICT personnel also repaired 100 percent of the landslide at km 10+500 of the Pie de la Cuesta to Coyuca section, Acapulco-Zihuatanejo highway.

To carry out repairs on the road, the Ministry deployed around six crews of workers and 48 units of machinery.

The agency called on users to drive with caution, because being at dirt level it is necessary to slow down and drive in moderation.
