This Wednesday, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced that the Oaxaca-Puerto Escondido highway will be inaugurated next Wednesday, November 29.
“In November we are going to inaugurate it and I want to thank San Vicente Coatlán and other communities that have helped us finish this highway,” he said.
In a morning press conference, he pointed out that this road alternative will reduce travel time from 6 to 2.5 hours.
“Now we are building a bridge in a ravine, it is the only thing we need; “It is a road with many tunnels, many structures, many viaducts, bridges,” he stressed.
The president proposed that, in the future, this highway could be expanded through a branch to Santa Catarina Juquila, a municipality that houses one of the most visited religious sanctuaries in the country.
Likewise, he announced that the residents will not pay:
“Oaxacans are not going to pay and we are thinking about a system to benefit those who use these roads. The residents are not going to pay,” he remarked.
