One more Mexican journalist murdered in Acapulco, Guerrero

Reporter Nelson Matus Peña, director of a media outlet in the state of Guerrero, was shot to death on Saturday, July 15th in the city of Acapulco, in the state of Guerrero, on the Mexican Pacific coast.

According to local media outlets, armed individuals shot Matus Peña, director of the Lo Real de Guerrero news portal, in the parking lot of a business in the Emiliano Zapata neighborhood of Acapulco this Saturday afternoon.

The journalist was left lying next to his vehicle. State authorities have not provided further details of what happened.

Matus Peña is the second journalist murdered in Acapulco in the last two months, after reporter Gerardo Torres Rentería was killed on May 11 inside his home.

A week ago, the murder of journalist Luis Martín Sánchez Íñiguez, a correspondent for the newspaper La Jornada in the state of Nayarit (western) was reported. So far in 2023, six journalists have been murdered in Mexico.
