When does Holy Week start in Mexico? Know the official calendar according to the SEP

According to the SEP, students will enjoy an extra day of vacation that will start in the next few days, before the start of the Easter holidays. Next, we will show you the start date of the rest days and other important details about the upcoming holidays.

When does Easter 2023 start?

Pay attention. This year’s Holy Week will begin on April 2 with ‘Palm Sunday’ and will end on April 9 with ‘Resurrection Sunday’. Processions and representations are expected during the week, especially on Holy Thursday and Good Friday, which will fall on April 6 and 7.

According to the SEP calendar, the holidays will continue until Friday the 14th of the same month. During this period, the educational institutions incorporated by the Ministry of Public Education will also have mandatory rest days. With the extra day off granted to young people, students will have a total of 17 days off, resuming their activities on Monday, April 17.

Rest days and long weekends of 2023

Although the Easter holidays are not official, throughout the year workers may benefit from other mandatory rest days. These days are:

December 25th

It should be noted that starting this year, workers can request up to 12 days off from the first working year, thanks to the Decent Vacations reform, so those who wish to rest during Easter Week can do so.

Easter: since when is it celebrated?

More than 2000 years have passed since the life, passion, death and resurrection of Jesus on Earth. Therefore, the Christian community celebrates these dates to commemorate the arrival of the son of God.

According to the Cope portal, the Christian calendar is governed by the astronomical full Moon, because Easter has to be the Sunday following the first full Moon after the March equinox.
