Oryx is a genus consisting of four large antelope species called oryxes. Their pelage is pale with contrasting dark markings on the face and on the legs, and their long horns are almost straight.
Specifically, the scimitar oryx, also known as the scimitar-horned oryx and the Sahara oryx, is an Oryx species that was once widespread across North Africa. In 2000, it was declared extinct in the wild on the IUCN Red List.
In the Altiplano Zoo, in Tlaxcala, where a number of these almost extinct specimens of the Cimatarra Oryx (scimitar horns) antelope live in a semi-controlled environment; the birth of a baby Oryx (Oryx dammah) was registered on January 9, as a result of a good adaptation to the habitat and the good work of the veterinary medical staff who are in charge of the conservation of the species in this place.
This antelope is a bovine species, native to Africa that is considered almost extinct.
