On Friday, November 11th, while in the city of Mérida, Yucatán; President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced that his government will acquire the Mexicana de Aviación brand and that they are already in negotiations with workers and retirees of the defunct airline.
“An agreement is already being sought for the new airline to be called Mexicana de Aviación again. Our opponents don’t like that, but this is not to taste. We have to move forward,” the president asserted.
AMLO added that the Army airline that will offer commercial flights will operate under that name and that it has been decided that the presidential plane that Felipe Calderón bought will be delivered to the future company and used for special trips.
