The Coatzacoalcos submerged tunnel is located in the southeast of the state of Veracruz (Mexico). This project consisted of the execution of a tunnel, whose submerged part was made with reinforced concrete and longitudinally post-stressed.

It has a total length of 1.14 kilometers, of which 696 meters comprise the submerged part. The tunnel was executed using the “Cut and Cover” system. 

The Coatzacoalcos tunnel represents a technological innovation, since under the Immersed-tunnel Method technique it allows prefabricating reinforced concrete sections of the tunnel in a dry dock, preparing them for flotation, towing them and placing them on the bottom of the seabed without it being necessary. use special underground drilling machinery.

The project is complemented by two buildings or portals on the east and west sides, located on both sides of the submerged tunnel, where the electromechanical installations are housed.

Likewise, in the toll plaza, a control building is also installed that fulfills the functions of an administration and control building.
