Aguascalientes is the last hope of the opposition

María Teresa Jiménez Esquivel (Coalition PAN-PRI-PRD), the candidate of the alliance led by the PAN starts with an advantage in this rich and conservative state, although Morena has closed the gap in recent weeks.

Aguascalientes, in the north-central part of the country, is the great hope of the opposition in elections in which the party in government is expected to prevail in at least four of the six states at stake.

Calm, agricultural, entrepreneurial, and rich, the State seems destined to continue in the ranks of the PAN.

However, a surprise defeat in Aguascalientes would simply be lethal for an opposition that in these elections will be overwhelmed by the president’s party.

Aguascalientes is the fourth-smallest state and the sixth least populated with 1.4 million inhabitants.

A victory for the PAN in Aguascalientes is important for the opposition, of course; but it is evident that the opposition seems weak, almost non-existent, as in the case of Oaxaca. While Morena’s strength is felt in most of these states.

It seems like the PAN political party has turned into an archipelago of islands scattered around Mexico in Guanajuato, Aguascalientes, and Yucatan.
