According to photographs spread on social networks, the sargassum saturated the beaches and despite keeping its workers cleaning each of the areas by forced marches , it could not be completely removed.

The Quintana Roo Sargassum Monitoring Network explained that an increase in moderate to very intense sargassum spills is expected this week , from Punta Cancun to Xcalak, that is, the entire southern area of the Yucatan Peninsula.”It is the first time in four years that the Sargassum Monitoring Network, which carries out this monitoring day by day, registers 50 points in red, that is, with excessive sargassum!”

The organization explained that the foregoing is a very important indicator, regarding the situation in terms of the amount and volume of sargassum that will wash up on the beaches by 2022, it will be critical and puts the entire coastal marine ecosystem at risk and with it, also tourist activity, which is the main engine that drives the economy of Quintana Roo.

The entity’s Sargassum Monitoring Network urged the competent authorities to take more drastic measures and on a larger scale to confront sargassum, and considered it a priority to rethink the strategy to combat this natural phenomenon.
