OAXACA, Oaxaca. On the occasion of the holiday bridge for the anniversary of the birth of Don Benito Juárez, from March 18 to 21, thousands of national and foreign tourists visit the Oaxacan capital, as well as meeting in two of the most visited beach destinations; Huatulco and Puerto Escondido, for which an economic spill of the order of 184 million pesos is estimated.
In Oaxaca, there are national and foreign tourists who enjoy the natural attractions, beaches, archaeological sites, temples, customs and traditions of Oaxaca, which amaze those who know them.
Despite the fact that the pandemic continues, the entity has maintained a significant influx of visitors, in addition to the epidemic traffic light that continues to be green, makes tourist activities flow without so many restrictions, which results in work and economic benefits that contribute to the recovery of the economy in the so-called industry without chimneys.
Likewise, in the beach tourist destinations by the bridge and prior to the incoming vacation period, the influx of tourism is considerable, in recent days the president of the Mexican Association of Hotels and Motels of Oaxaca, José Rivera Espino, indicated that in Bahías of Huatulco, average occupancy of 65 percent and an economic benefit of 83 million pesos is estimated.
In another of the busiest beach destinations; Puerto Escondido, the estimated occupancy is 63 percent and an economic benefit of 46 million pesos.
The president of the Association of Hotels and Motels of the Green Antequera (AHMVA), Laura Barranco pointed out that the tourist movement registered during this long weekend holiday shows signs of an accelerated tourist recovery.
“This bridge has been pretty good. It has been higher than the average that we have of the annual square and that gives us hope that every day it is improving more”, he highlighted.
Without a doubt, he explained, the number of visitors who arrived in Oaxaca broke with the expectations they had prior to the holiday season.
“This is getting better faster than we thought. This gives us the guideline that it will be better, even than 2019. We are doing quite well, obviously, there will always be months that are low as these seasonalities have been, but we are working so that Oaxaca always has the presence of visitors.
The hotel businesswoman indicated that both March and April will be months of significant influx, which will undoubtedly impact the increase in jobs, contrary to what happened in this month two years ago when confinement was decreed due to the presence of COVID-19.
He considered that the accelerated recovery can be attributed to the coverage of vaccinated people, but also to the need that people see in resuming life as close to normal before 2020.
On the other hand -he added- visitors also have Oaxaca in a safe destination concept since tourist service establishments maintain all sanitary measures in force such as the mandatory use of face masks, healthy distance, sanitization, temperature taking and application of gel.
“Unfortunately or fortunately, in several cities in Mexico, the use of face masks is no longer mandatory as in the United States. It makes a lot of people relax, but I still see a lot of people in Oaxaca respecting the use of face masks. In our case, security protocols are still in force. Those have not changed, we have not lowered our guard, ”she exposed.
The Ministry of Tourism estimated that 18,889 tourists would arrive in the state capital with this vacation bridge, with an occupancy rate of 53 percent and an economic benefit of 54 million pesos.
The recommendation is made not to let your guard down and continue to take care of yourself and take care of other people, remember to use gel, wash your hands continuously, follow all measures to avoid contagion.
