Currently, the Riviera Nayarit has become an important tourist destination for the United States, Canada, and also South America. And it outlines its micro-destinations and beaches on its own.
Especially with a great segmentation to the market with high purchasing power in high category resorts and in contact with nature. Receiving a large number of travelers year after year.
The Riviera Nayarit has grown to such a degree that, according to data from the Jalisco Ministry of Tourism, 70% of travelers who land at the airport located in Puerto Vallarta take a taxi or executive vehicle to Nayarit territory.
Where they stay in hotels or residences in Nuevo Vallarta, Bucerías, Punta de Mita, Sayulita, San Pancho and several other beaches on the Nayarit coast.
The tourism of the Riviera Nayarit will no longer be brought to that state from the Puerto Vallarta airport, but from the Tepic airport, which will now be expanded to be an international complex with flights to various destinations.
At least that is the intention of Nayarit Governor Miguel Ángel Navarro Quintero, who has promoted the separation of the Riviera Nayarit from Puerto Vallarta and Jalisco, first announcing the change of name from Nuevo Vallarta to “Nuevo Nayarit” and from Punta de Mita to “Punta de Mita”. Nayarit”.
This is under the argument that “it cannot promote another state”, in reference to Puerto Vallarta and Nuevo Vallarta. Now, the Congress of Nayarit approved the transfer of Tepic’s Amado Nervo Airport to the parastatal company Aeropuertos y Servicios Auxiliares (ASA), which will spend 1.2 billion pesos to expand the runway and build a new terminal.
“The tourist who arrives here in the capital will leave an economic spill and wherever he wants to go, be it to San Blas or Compostela,” commented deputy Luis Alberto Zamora Romero, who voted for this assignment.
The project was put on the table by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador himself, who on a tour of Bahía de Banderas had commented that “to develop the north and interior of the state, the airport would be expanded so that tourism enters through Nayarit and not just for Vallarta.”
It is important to mention that the success of this project depends on the opening of the Las Varas – Bucerias and Las Varas – Tepic highways so that the transfer of tourists is fast and successful in competing against the Puerto Vallarta airport.
he president put on the table the previously conceived idea of transforming the Tepic airport into an international one from where tourism arrives at the Riviera Nayarit and other parents of the state.
“We are going to make it an international airport so that tourists don’t have to leave Vallarta alone, so that they have this option that goes with the development of the northern zone so that everything does not stay in the south,” said the president.
It is important to mention that the project is already formally contemplated and an investment of about 2.1 billion pesos will be made for the remodeling of the “Amado Nervo” Airport in the capital of Nayarit.
The airport will have its runway expanded to be able to receive aircraft of higher category and capacity, as well as a larger terminal building with a greater number of slots, and will build a new control tower.
Tepic is only 2 hours and a half by road from the furthest hotel in Punta de Mita, an exclusive area where high-net-worth tourism arrives through the Puerto Vallarta Airport.
