Conectividad aérea en México
  • Currently the entity has 25 active air routes to international, national and local destinations through nine different airlines.

Oaxaca maintains and increases air connectivity with Mexico and the world, as announced by the Ministry of Tourism of the Government of the State of Oaxaca (Sectur Oaxaca) by highlighting that the entity is currently connected with six destinations nationals such as Mexico City, Tijuana, Monterrey, Guadalajara, Mérida, and Cancún; as well as four international flights: Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, Los Angeles, and Calgary via charter; in addition to two local destinations, which are Huatulco and Puerto Escondido.

The Oaxaca Sectur pointed out that, in a record of the entity’s air activity from December 28, 2020 to January 3 of this year, there are 25 active routes to local, national, and international destinations, with 192 weekly frequencies, through nine different airlines.

Specifically, the state capital has 13 active routes: three international routes to destinations such as Los Angeles (Volaris), Dallas Forth Worth (American Airlines), and Houston (United Airlines); eight nationals to Mexico City, Tijuana, Guadalajara, Mérida, and Cancún through Volaris, by Aeroméxico to Mexico City and by Viva Aerobús to Mexico City and Monterrey; and two locals through Aerotucán towards Huatulco and Puerto Escondido.

Meanwhile, Bahías de Huatulco has two international routes: Dallas-Fort Worth with American Airlines and the route to Calgary through WestJet (charter); and five national ones that connect the destination of the Coast region with Mexico City through Volaris, Aeroméxico, Viva Aerobús, and Magnicharters; and with Tijuana through Volaris.

It should be noted that some of these international routes were reactivated after the confinement stage, such as Dallas Fort Worth – Oaxaca, Dallas Fort Worth – Huatulco and Los Angeles – Oaxaca, with the airlines American Airlines and Volaris; Houston – Oaxaca with United Airlines; Calgary – Huatulco through WestJet (charter) and Chicago – Huatulco with Volaris, which operated temporarily, however, in June 2021 the Chicago – Oaxaca flight will be received through the same airline.

Likewise, the national routes restarted operations: Guadalajara – Oaxaca, Tijuana – Huatulco and Mérida – Oaxaca through Volaris; the Mexico – Oaxaca route by Viva Aerobús; and on January 29 of this year, the new Mexico – Puerto Escondido route will be received, which will be operated by Aeroméxico.

During the months of confinement, the state of Oaxaca maintained air connectivity with Mexico City, which allowed users to mobilize for essential activities; and in May 2020, the Aeromar airline opened two temporary local routes: Oaxaca – Puerto Escondido and Oaxaca – Ixtepec, which ended operations on July 13 of the previous year.

Likewise, in 2020 new national flights emerged, such as the Tuxtla Gutiérrez – Oaxaca route operated by Aeromar as of March 2, which at the moment is not in operation due to the COVID-19 contingency; and on December 11, the Cancun – Oaxaca Volaris flight was received.
