To promote nature and cultural tourism, the Veracruz Secretariat of Tourism has certified more than 1,500 companies with distinctive and seals such as the Modernized Ecotourism Quality Program.
Through this seal, the training of rural and indigenous nature and adventure companies is guaranteed by improving their environmental, social and customer service practices.
Last Tuesday, the state agency delivered 105 accreditations to the same number of businesses located in hydrological basins of five regions of Veracruz: High Mountains (19), Culture and Adventure (23), Los Tuxtlas (11), First Steps of Cortés (24 ) and Totonaca (28).
Together with the Ministry of the Environment (Sedema) and through a financing of 995 million pesos, 11 integrating agencies of services, 20 of food and beverages, two spas, one of tourist guides, 45 of accommodation, six operators were benefited. adventure / nature, 16 tour operators, one diving, one tourist marina, a theme park and a transporter.
“We are a national power in ecotourism, because from the beginning of the administration it was a priority to bet on tourism that conserves and not destroys,” said Veracruz Secretary of Tourism, Xóchitl Arbesú Lago.
The official added that we work for a single goal: to improve the living conditions of the population in all areas; “For this reason, roads have been built in remote areas, promoting the well-being of native peoples and all those who had been forgotten.”
For his part, the head of Sedema, Juan Carlos Contreras Bautista, pointed out that sustainable development occurs when the social, economic and environmental aspects advance hand in hand, especially as this is one of the entities with the greatest cultural and natural wealth from the country. “If we don’t take care of the environment, tourism will stop coming, when the rivers and forests are running out.”
