MEXICO CITY.- In order to encourage the arrival of more tourists to the state of Guerrero, Senator Manuel Añorve Baños proposed to the federal authorities to apply a 50 percent discount on the toll collection.

This type of stimulus will have a positive impact on the productive chain of the entity, therefore, on the improvement of the living conditions of Acapulqueños and, in general, of Guerrero, said the PRI legislator.

“Especially in these atypical years due to the pandemic, in which the economy has already been devastated, particularly in tourist areas such as Acapulco, Taxco, or Zihuatanejo,” he said.

Añorve Baños highlighted that 76 percent of the state’s Gross Domestic Product corresponds to tertiary economic activities since in normal vacation periods more than one million visitors arrive at the beaches of Acapulco.

However, he regretted that, added to the effects of the health crisis, tourism promotion in the region was eliminated.

Given this, he called to exhort the Ministry of Communications and Transportation, and Federal Roads and Bridges of Income and Related Services to implement a 50 percent discount in toll rates, corresponding to the Autopista del Sol, Mexico City -Acapulco, during the winter vacation period 2021-2022.

The point of agreement was referred to the Communications and Transportation Commission.
