Saul Canelo Alvarez and challenger Caleb Plant went at it during a press conference, prior to their bout for the unified super middleweight title at Las Vegas in November.
Plant took the worst part with a bloody cheekbone. Apparently, Canelo did not like to hear the word “mother” during their brief interaction.
American boxer, Caleb Plant, replied to Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez. He denied that he had put the Mexican’s mother at the center of the discord and pointed out that the man from Guadalajara is angry because he has someone in front of him who is not afraid of him.
“You will never hear me speak of someone’s mother, children, or wife. When men go to war, they leave women and children at home. No way will they believe that shit … the truth is that he is angry because he has someone in front of him who is not afraid of him and he is not here just to pick up a check and his ego cannot handle it, “he said on Twitter.
The IBF champion (21-0 with 12 knockouts) recalled that his mother was killed by police officers two years ago.
“Why would I bring someone’s mother and even if I didn’t give a damn why would I open that door just for someone 1 on 1 and tell me ‘your mom wasn’t shot to death by the police doll? ‘”he added.
Caleb Hunter Plant is an American professional boxer who has held the IBF super middleweight title since 2019. As of September 2021, he is ranked as the seventh best active super middleweight by BoxRec, second best by ESPN, and third by The Ring, and the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board.
Caleb Plant won the IBF crown by defeating Venezuelan José Uzcategui by unanimous decision in January 2019. He has defended the title three times since then, the last of which he beat compatriot Caleb Truax by unanimous decision in January.
