Mexico will proceed with additional charges against former Quintana Roo governor Roberto Borge

Cancun, Q. R. — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Panama has authorized Mexico to proceed with additional charges against Roberto Borge. On Thursday, August 26th, Borge’s lawyer Carlos Carrillo, was notified of the decision to allow Mexico to charge his client with organized crime.

From Panama, Carrillo said that they will challenge the decision within the 15-day period established by law.

Borge, the former governor of Quintana Roo, was extradited back to Mexico in December of 2017 and imprisoned after being arrested in Panama in June while boarding a flight to Paris.

Borge has been held on charges of money laundering, embezzlement, illegal use of power, and irregular performance of public function during his time as Quintana Roo governor from 2011 to 2016.
