Mexico is the ‘hottest’ country for Latin startups

For the CEO of Angels Nest Latam and co-founder of Pitch at the Beach, Israel Pons, Mexico is today the country to which most of the successful startups in the region are seeking to reach.

Latin startups today have their eyes set on Mexico, a country which they consider crucial to continue their growth, on the one hand, due to the size of its market and, on the other, due to the quality of investors who are present here today.

This is pointed out by Israel Pons, CEO of Angels Nest Latam and co-founder of Pitch at the Beach, an annual entrepreneurship meeting held this weekend in Cozumel, Quintana Roo, and which aims to connect startups with investors, experts in new trends, and potential new customers.

“Mexico has become the hottest market for startups in Latin America, today we see many companies and entrepreneurs from the region already present here, as well as many others preparing to make the leap to this place, which is very positive ”, Points out an interview with Forbes Mexico.

This trend involves all kinds of startups; however, according to the specialist, there are at least three sectors that will develop very significantly in the coming years.

The first of them, says Israel Pons, is that of financial technology ( fintech ), which has been taking off significantly for some years, both within Mexico and in general throughout the region.

“I believe that, despite everything that has already been developed, there is still much to be done within the fintech field, especially due to the fact that there continues to be a low volume of people banked in the country and throughout Latin America”, exposes.

In the second instance, he assures, there are the trends of health tech and biotech, much due to the need of the current environment in which the world finds itself.

“In health, there is a lot ahead, even above telemedicine, which has been very important for everyone during this time,” says the CEO of Angels Nest Latam.

Finally, in a third place, the specialist envisions an important development in companies related to agrotech, this due to the little rapprochement that until today exists between technology and the field.

“This is, in particular from my point of view, a sector that aims to be a monster in the coming years, this because it is an environment that has very little connection to innovation until today, I think very big things are coming in this sense ”, he maintains.

Join forces

And it is seeking that the Latin American entrepreneurship ecosystem continues to develop that Pons has been promoting the Pitch at the Beach project, which will bring together all the links belonging to this chain during the next three days, from August 21 to 23.

“The great objective of Pitch at the Beach is that it is not simply a conference event, but rather a space designed to create networking between all those involved, entrepreneurs, companies, specialists, and investors,” says Israel Pons.

During this third edition of the event, which allowed different startups to obtain capital up to 8.5 million dollars (million dollars) in their last two editions, topics ranging from trends in entrepreneurship or technology to new funding options for companies will be discussed.

“On our first day, for example, we are going to talk a lot about technology, how blockchain, cryptocurrencies, and NFTs are changing things, in addition to talking about artificial intelligence and more,” he says.

Likewise, for the second day, the investor points out that topics such as the soft skills that entrepreneurs require today to be successful or the work that needs to be done to have more women leaders in the ecosystem will be discussed.

Finally, on the last day, issues related to access to capital by startups will be addressed, locating investors, both local and foreign, as well as new models to achieve surveys.

“We want attendees to acquire knowledge of a different nature, hence the idea of being able to address different important topics on each of the days of the event,” says Pons.
