The new route will begin on December 16 with three outbound and three return flights a week.
The airline Aeroméxico announced this Wednesday a new direct route between Monterrey, the second-largest city in the country, and Madrid starting on December 16.
Within four months, three outbound and three return weekly flights will begin, explained Sergio Allard, Aeroméxico’s executive vice president of legal and Institutional Relations, at a press conference in Monterrey, Nuevo León.
“Monterrey is one of our main centers of operations and with this announcement we will have around 100 weekly flights to this destination. Connecting Monterrey with Europe improves connectivity for passengers and cargo,” argued the manager.
The announcement comes days after being published that Aeroméxico will have a new direct route from Guadalajara to Madrid.

With these plans, Aeroméxico will operate a total of more than 20 weekly flights to the capital of Spain from the three largest cities in the country: Mexico City, Monterrey, and Guadalajara.
This represents more than 13,300 weekly seats and a 43% increase in the airline’s offer between Mexico and Spain, the airline said.
Tickets from Monterrey will initially cost from $ 599 in economy class and $ 1,999 in the premier class.
“This new destination undoubtedly positions the Monterrey Airport as the most important connection center in the north of the country, ” Ricardo Dueñas, general director of the Centro Norte Airport Group (OMA), highlighted in the announcement.
The launch comes amid the recovery of the Mexican air sector, which lost revenues of $ 9.3 billion in 2020 due to the COVID-19 crisis, according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
Aeroméxico had a 54.2% drop in passenger transport in 2020, which is why it signed up to Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Code last June in a New York court to get a financial restructuring.
In this context, the company highlighted that the route from Monterrey, a city with an industrial vocation with more than 4 thousand foreign companies, creates “one more bridge” in the transport of passengers and cargo between Mexico and Europe.
“This will facilitate the visits of company executives and residents of Monterrey who travel for pleasure. Nuevo León has been characterized by having the highest foreign investment,” said Roberto Russildi, Secretary of Economy and Labor of Nuevo León.
