Tourism is a pillar of the Oaxacan economy; However, citizens of the capital have spoken out against foreign visitors who do not wear face masks on the streets of the city, as they affirm that they must respect the norms established against the pandemic.
Faced with the third wave of COVID-19 infections that is going through Oaxaca and also the country, as recognized by the Government of Mexico and the Oaxaca Health Services, the authorities decided to hold digital events on the occasion of the July Holidays; however, the arrival of 325 thousand visitors is expected.
Don Nicolás affirms that the rules to prevent COVID-19 infections were made for all those who are in the national territory, so foreigners must also respect these rules, “because they are for the benefit of all, of all Oaxaca” he declared.

Judith, a young resident of the Oaxacan capital, said that she considers foreigners who do not wear face masks disrespectful, as they must respect the people who are taking care of themselves to avoid COVID-19 infections.
He pointed out that it is true that the Oaxacan capital lives off tourism, “but that does not mean that tourists are going to come to do whatever they want, because they affect us as a city; we take care of ourselves and we do want to get ahead of this crisis ”.
Finally, Don Nicolás assured that Oaxacans are not rude to international visitors, on the contrary, whenever they require our help, we are here to support them; but they, accordingly, should respect the rules, especially in this pandemic.
