And now that serotypes 1, 2, and 4 have been detected in the state, vacant lots, abandoned houses, and garbage dumps become high-risk sites, as they become potential breeding sites for the Aedes Aegypti mosquito, which transmits dengue and other diseases like Zika and Chikungunya.

The rains have not yet started, and the density of mosquitoes has already increased in most parts of the state.

After Veracruz, Colima is the second Mexican state with the most cases of dengue in the country and is the first place with the highest incidence of the disease nationwide.

Currently 62 percent of confirmed cases in the country correspond to the states of Veracruz, Guerrero, Colima, Michoacán and Jalisco.
