Gilberto ‘N’, aka “El Mex”, the alleged operator of the Sinaloa Cartel in Mexico City, was detained by agents of the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) and the Attorney General’s Office (FGJ) after completing a search warrant in CDMX Cuajimalpa district.

The ministerial order was executed in a property, located in the Lomas de Vista Hermosa uptown neighborhood, allegedly used for drug storage and where El Mex, who is originally from the state of Sinaloa, was hiding.

His capture occurred as part of investigative work, after the arrest of two people from Peru and three Mexicans, carried out on April 1, 2020, in the Juárez neighborhood of Mexico City, who apparently were engaged in drug trafficking.

Thus, El Mex was identified as one of the main operators of the Sinaloa Cartel in the nation’s capital, which allegedly received and distributed drugs in the western area of CDMX and used as a place of protection located in the Club de Golf Lomas de Vista Hermosa neighborhood.

Along with El Mex, three women and a man were apprehended.

At the place of their capture, three firearms, 85 doses of marijuana, 120 small bags of cocaine, a package of bulk cocaine and one more of marijuana, three cell phones, and a computer were seized.

The property was sealed and placed under police protection. Meanwhile, the five detainees and the illegal drugs insured were placed at the disposal of the corresponding Public Ministry agent, who will define their legal situation and continue with the corresponding investigations.

Investigations by Mexico City authorities indicate that El Mex is allegedly one of the main operators of the criminal organization known as the Sinaloa Cartel in the capital of the country, which hired pilots and co-pilots, some of them foreigners, to transport drugs on airplanes or light aircraft from South America to Puebla.
