First Majestic donated a Genetic Sequencing Unit to the Scientific Research Area of the Government of the State of Durango’s health services unit.
At the facilities of the Scientific Research Unit of the Durango state government, First Majestic made an official delivery of the genetic sequencing unit with a monetary value of over 2 million pesos (about USD $400k). The ceremony was attended by the Governor of the State of Durango, Dr. José Rosas Aispuro Torres and Steve Holmes, COO of First Majestic, on behalf of the mining company, as well as researchers and health service authorities across all three levels of government.
The governor of the State of Durango, Dr. José Rosas Aispuro Torres, recognized First Majestic’s social responsibility efforts and highlighted the Company’s collaboration efforts in partnership with health authorities to help combat the effects of the pandemic.
“First Majestic has strongly supported the people of Durango through the Company’s Clinic in Tayoltita, dedicating human and material efforts to support the community. Today’s donation from a team specializing in identifying genomic changes in the virus’s structure will give researchers a better understanding of its behavior and transmission and will help not only during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, but the equipment will also be a valuable asset in the research activities for Durango state government scientists.”
Steve Holmes, COO of First Majestic, emphasized that the donation of this state-of-the-art machinery aligns with the Company’s vision of using the resources at its disposal to contribute to the fight against the COVID-19 global pandemic.

First Majestic has addressed the COVID-19 pandemic by complying, from the outset, with official measures put in place by Mexican health authorities and other government officials and agencies. For example, all our operations and workplaces implemented strict health protocols and prevention measures as soon as the pandemic was announced. Similarly, we apply access filters across our operational units that include PCR testing on all of our staff before they begin their duties.
