National destinations are already competing to attract more national tourism regardless of whether it is necessary to lower rates.

Mazatlán, Sinaloa.- What was thought to be a “lifeline” for the hotel sector turned out to be a disappointment, because although the Caribbean Series is being developed in the port, hotel occupations have not even reached 50 percent, assured Carlos Berdegue Sacristán President of the Association of Hotels and Tourist Companies of Mazatlán.

He commented that due to the lack of foreign tourism due to the pandemic, a “competition” has been unleashed among national beach destinations in order to attract more tourism with actions such as lowering hotel rates.

“There is a lot of space, a lot of competition, Vallarta under very strong prices, Cancun has a very big problem because it no longer has Canadians. Before it did not compete with destinations such as Vallarta and Mazatlán, right now they are competing very strongly for the national market, it is cheaper for you to go from Torreón to Cancun than to go to Torreón to other cities, it is complicated, there is a lot of competition and the rates are falling a lot “, he pointed.

He stressed that Mazatlán is used to maintaining sales strategies, in addition to other attractions such as sporting events, shows, and traditional events such as Carnival that attract visitors year after year.
