The lodges that are within the Association of Hotels and Motels of Zihuatanejo have reported a decrease of between 80 and 90 percent in cancellation of Canadian tourism reservations, its president Rogelio Lozano Calderón reported by telephone.

By telephone, he stated that due to the Covid-19 pandemic the decrease in this winter season 2020-2021 will be noticeable, a season that has already started because there are already North American flights with Alaska and United, which has allowed to see a little North American tourism, although unfortunately, Canadian tourism has decreased.

He said that until last winter season, Canadian tourism was outnumbering North Americans but this does not mean that he will see a season without foreign tourism, but he endorsed that the absence of Canadian tourism is notorious, where airlines are postponing all their flights as they did every winter and this is due to the Covid-19 pandemic because, for example, medical insurance companies tell residents that if they get sick in Mexico, the disease will not be covered.

He recalled that for 30 years this tourism has reached the small inns of the traditional hotel industry in Zihuatanejo with stays of two, three weeks, and up to three months, and it is from there where 80 and 90 percent of cancellations of this is reported in some cases. Canadian tourism, but there is the other upside with the airlines that continue to fly and even show an increase in frequency due to the good occupation they have of American tourism.
