Seven beaches in Oaxaca closed due to an outbreak of Covid-19

Juchitán, Oaxaca . From last October 12 to October 31, the seven beaches “Principal, Marinero, Zicatela, La Barra Primera, Barra de Navidad and Puertecito”, which comprise the municipal jurisdiction of Santa María Colotepec, will remain closed due to an outbreak of Covid -19, local authorities reported.

According to data from the Oaxaca health authorities, the increase on the Oaxaca coast grew from 905 cases over the weekend to 945 confirmed cases of coronavirus as of this Thursday, October 15.

While the municipality of Santa María Colotepec reports 51 confirmed cases, of which six are active.

In a statement, the municipal government, led by Carmelo Cruz Mendoza, stressed the reduction of capacity in hotels and restaurants, in addition, the use of face masks is mandatory for all types of external movement.

Likewise, access and transit to federal public transport will not be allowed, that is, the departures and arrivals of trips from the entire Mexican Republic to the first and second class bus terminals are suspended.

They also urged local carriers to reduce the number of passengers in their units, and the cattle market was also suspended.

The municipal authorities stressed that there will again be a dry law for this 15-day period, in addition to the suspension of street shops in the El Morro and Punta Zicatela areas.

“These measures are in order to contribute to health and so that the number of cases of Covid-19, which has claimed the lives of people in this municipality, does not grow further,” said the municipal president.

He added that in the event of non-compliance with such measures and recommendations, sanctions are stipulated for putting the health and lives of citizens at risk.

Near this town, Santa María Mixtepec is also located, a municipality where cases have also increased; However, its beaches are still open, as in Santa María Huatulco and in the jurisdiction of San Pedro Pochutla, Oaxaca.
