With the aim of strengthening the traditions and customs commemorating the Day of the Dead, in times of pandemic, the Secretariat of Cultures and Arts of Oaxaca (Seculta) called for participation in the Second Facade Decoration Contest, which will award 20 prizes for the amount of 20 thousand pesos.

According to the agency, the invitation does not intend to disrupt the provisions of the municipal authority of Oaxaca de Juárez, which suspended public events and pilgrimage due to the health alert for Covid-19.

The call contemplates the participation of families and residents living in the historic center of the state capital, so that, in a playful and creative way, they “decorate the facade of the house in the characteristic neighborhoods, in accordance with the Oaxacan arts and Mexican related to characters, stories, myths and legends alluding to the Day of the Dead ”.

The call establishes that the assembly or intervention can be based on traditional or innovative techniques that allow the full development of creative ideas using traditional materials that do not harm the environment and take care of the material condition of the facade or wall.

Public festive activities to celebrate the Day of the Dead will have to be canceled in the city of Oaxaca de Juárez, due to the accelerated increase in cases of coronavirus among its inhabitants, determined the capital’s municipal authority.
