It’s official, San Miguel de Allende will have its own UNAM Campus

San Miguel de Allende.- What seemed like a dream, today is a reality, the municipality will have an extension of the highest house of studies in the country, the National Autonomous University of Mexico ( UNAM ).

With a tripartite investment of more than 49 million pesos, between the UNAM, the State and Municipal Governments, once completed, this university will be able to house 4 thousand students.

It will be an avant-garde space, a benchmark for its inclusive infrastructure with an elevator, ramps and adapted bathrooms for students, teachers and visitors with disabilities.

On June 20, 2019, at the UNAM facilities, Municipal President Luis Alberto Villarreal García and Governor Diego Sinhue Rodríguez Vallejo signed the agreement to open the Extension Unit in San Miguel de Allende. Dr. Enrique Graue Wiechers, rector of UNAM was also present.

Four months later, the plenary session of the City Council approved the architectural project in accordance with the urban image of this Heritage City, which will be developed on a 4.5-hectare site donated by the municipality.

This educational space will house a total of eight university degrees in a space dedicated to Science, Technology, and Research. For its part, the UNAM will provide both the academic staff and all the studies of educational relevance to define suitable careers in the region.

In addition, with regard to educational infrastructure, the construction of the CETAC high school stands out, inaugurated at the start of the administration for the benefit of dozens of young people in search of new and better opportunities for their optimal professional development.

Within the higher education institutions, the Technological University of San Miguel de Allende was benefited with the expansion and dignification of spaces in different stages, works in favor of the nearly 1,500 students that make up the school staff and that are possible thanks to the Accompaniment of the State Government together with the parents who want the best for their children.
