The Kob-Há Eco Hábitat ecotourism project was intended to invest 10 million pesos.
The Federal Government gave priority to the conservation of the southern Quintana Roo forest and rejected an ecotourism project in the town of Juan Sarabia in which it is intended to devastate 7.6 hectares.
One individual wanted to obtain permission from the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) for the Change of Land Use in Forest Lands (Custf), but the authority decided that it does not apply because the ecological balance would be affected.
In that area located in the municipality of Othón P. Blanco, flora species protected by the Official Mexican Standard (NOM) 059-Semarnat-2010 were located, such as the chit palm (Thrinax radiata) that occupies 26.9% of the area that is intended to impact and has threatened status; in addition to the Zamia Prasina (cha’ac hua), as protected.
The individual entered at the end of last year the Unified Technical Document of the project called Kob-Há Eco Hábitat, in which he proposed that in the property with a total area of 20,173 hectares, 7.6 will be used for its removal and improve the landscape, in what that approximately 10 million pesos were to be invested.

However, the project was rejected just before the coronavirus pandemic and until a few days ago the Semarnat released the verdict of this procedure, since the office activities and uploading of information to its official portal regarding this type of procedure, was suspended.
This place is located to the Southwest of the Juan Sarabia population center, on the Chetumal-Bacalar highway section, taking the dirt road located to the right of the federal highway, traveling 1.66 km from the highway to the project site.
Subsequently, in case of obtaining authorization from the federal environmental agency, in the second process of Environmental Impact Manifestation (MIA), it would seek to consolidate the project consisting of ecological cabins to attract tourism to that part of the municipality of Othón P. Blanco, which it cannot do at the moment.
