Oaxaca the best tourist city in the world

Readers of Travel + Leisure magazine voted for Oaxaca to be recognized in the Top City Overall and Top City, Mexico category in The World’s Best contest that recognizes the best in the travel sector. 

The pre-Hispanic wealth, gastronomic and artistic culture, led Oaxaca to be chosen by readers and subscribers of Travel + Leisure magazine, as the number one travel destination.

Travel + Leisure is one of the most important international magazines in the world and every year it conducts a survey so that travelers can share their opinions about the main destinations and travel companies, and thus, reward the best in the world.

Since last year, the Ministry of Tourism received the notification that Oaxaca was nominated for The World’s Best, so it invited its readers and travelers to issue their votes and opinions, from the month of November to the month of March.

Thus, the voters chose that Oaxaca should obtain the two awards, which this year, due to the health emergency, were sent directly to the winners.

It should be noted that, during the administration of Governor Alejandro Murat Hinojosa, Oaxaca has ranked each year among the best 15 cities in the world and in the top of the five best cities in Mexico according to this publication with a global presence, reflecting the efforts carried out in the matter of promotion and improvement of the tourist infrastructure.

Upon receiving notification of these recognitions, Governor Alejandro Murat Hinojosa expressed that “Oaxaca continues to demonstrate that even in adversity there is union, that union that our people express better than anyone through tequio, and that allows us to give the best that we have as a tourist destination ”.

For his part, the Secretary of Tourism, Juan Carlos Rivera Castellanos, indicated that this recognition belongs to the Oaxacans who day by day shares the wealth of Oaxaca.
