MEXICO CITY (Reuters) – Japanese automaker Nissan will lay off about 200 workers at a plant in Mexico amid local and global challenges facing the automotive industry, the carmaker said on Thursday, June 24.

“Stemming from changes in the global and local industry, we have had to make important decisions to ensure the sustainability of our operations in today’s environment,” a Nissan spokesperson told Reuters in a statement.
Message issued by Nissan Mexico on Wednesday June 24, 2020:
“At Nissan, stemming from changes in the global and local industry, we have had to make important decisions to ensure the sustainability of our operations in today’s environment.
As a consequence, approximately 200 workers will be laid off from the Aguascalientes production line, under the guidelines indicated by the Federal Labor Law.
Nissan remains committed to society and the market, expecting a speedy recovery into the future. ”

As the message says, the job cuts will take place at a Nissan plant in the central state of Aguascalientes.
