Transport Strike Paralyzes Key Entrances to Mexico City

- October 28, 2026

Major traffic disruptions have paralyzed the main entrances to Mexico City this Monday as cargo transport operators launched a nationwide strike. The protest, organized by the Mexican Alliance of Transportist Organizations (HAMOTAC) and the National Chamber of Cargo Transport (Canacar), has resulted in blocked roads and reduced lanes across four primary highways leading into the capital.

Beginning at 10:00 AM, transport groups gathered at various toll booths on the Mexico-Pachuca, Mexico-Texcoco, Mexico-Toluca, and Mexico-Querétaro highways. The mobilization has caused significant traffic chaos, severely hindering the movement of goods and commuters entering and exiting the metropolitan area.

The nationwide strike serves as a large-scale protest by the transport sector to demand government attention to systemic industry issues, including road safety, cargo theft, and regulatory reform. While specific demands vary by region, the collective action aims to pressure authorities into providing concrete solutions for the logistics and freight industry.
