Security Sweep in San Luis Potosí Leads to Multiple Arrests and Vehicle Recoveries

- October 20, 2026

SAN LUIS POTOSÍ, Mexico – The Highways Division of the State Civil Guard (GCE) conducted a series of permanent surveillance and security operations across strategic roads and highways in San Luis Potosí between October 12 and 16. The initiative, aimed at crime prevention and public safety, resulted in several arrests and the recovery of stolen vehicles.

As a result of these interventions, four individuals were turned over to the authorities. One person was handed over to the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), another was detained for suspected crimes against public health, and two others were apprehended for operating vehicles with active theft reports. Additionally, security forces recovered two vehicles with active theft reports and secured a third vehicle.

The operations were carried out under the direct instructions of Governor Ricardo Gallardo Cardona to bolster prevention efforts and improve road safety. The deployments covered a wide range of high-traffic areas, including federal highways 57, 49, 80, and 37; the Potosí Circuit; the Río Santiago and San Luis boulevards; the North and East bypasses; and the La Tinaja-El Peyote and La Pila-Villa de Arriaga sections.

During the period, personnel also responded to traffic accidents and provided “social proximity” services, which include road signaling and roadside assistance. These actions are part of a broader strategy by the State Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection to enhance the safety and fluidity of movement on the state’s highway system.
