Power Outage Sparks Road Blockade in Acapulco as Residents Denounce CFE Inaction

- October 14, 2026

ACAPULCO, Guerrero — Residents of the Jardín Palmas neighborhood in Acapulco’s western zone launched an intermittent blockade on the Acapulco-Zihuatanejo federal highway on Monday. The protest aims to pressure the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) to restore power to more than 20 homes on Crisantemos Street that have been without electricity for six days.

The demonstrators set up the blockade near a gas station and an Elektra store, expressing deep frustration over the lack of response from the CFE despite daily reports.

Allely Pérez, one of the affected neighbors, highlighted the severe economic and health consequences of the blackout. “We have been without power for six days now,” she said. “Our food in the affected houses has spoiled, and with the heat in Acapulco, it is total chaos in our homes. We have children and elderly residents who need their insulin kept in the refrigerator, and all of that has been affected.”

Pérez detailed the constant denials from the CFE and warned that the protest will remain indefinite until technical personnel arrive to repair the damage. “We have spoken daily—first for 72 hours, then after 10 hours, and there has been no solution,” she explained. “This afternoon, we went in search of a crane; they told us it would be fixed by 5:00 PM, but they just keep putting us on hold. We want a solution—we want them to send a crane because the street’s power box exploded and they need to come fix it.”

The blockade caused significant vehicular traffic and sparked frustration among drivers attempting to reach their destinations on the major federal route.
