TEPIC, Nayarit — A 16-year-old boy, identified as Diego Armando, died after being allegedly attacked by police officers in Nayarit on October 3, according to reports from family members and friends.
Local reports indicate that security forces signaled a vehicle carrying Diego Armando to stop. The occupants reportedly refused to pull over, triggering a high-speed pursuit that ended in a gunfight. While initial reports suggested that the civilians were also armed, this information was later refuted; authorities confirmed that no weapons were found in the vehicle.
Preliminary findings indicate that the victim lost his life from a gunshot wound to the skull after being caught in crossfire during the pursuit. Following the incident, the teenager was rushed to a hospital for emergency medical attention but succumbed to his injuries nearly five days later.
His family has identified the security officers as the primary suspects in the shooting. Nadia Bernal, State Coordinator of the National Housing Commission in Nayarit, condemned the incident and demanded a transparent investigation, stating that the actions must not “go unpunished.”
The General Prosecutor’s Office of the State of Nayarit announced that a ballistic analysis is underway on a bullet extracted from the teenager’s skull. The official statement, published on the prosecutor’s Facebook page, noted that the body underwent a legal necropsy to determine the exact cause of death.
“A ballistic element was extracted from the skull of the deceased teenager following the violent events of October 3 in Tepic,” the prosecutor’s office stated. “The element is currently under forensic analysis to determine its characteristics and establish, through the corresponding reports and applicable protocols, its possible correspondence with the firearms related to these events.”
The National Union of Welfare Workers in Nayarit expressed mourning for the death of the son and nephew of two of its members, identified as Gina and Ricardo Covarrubias.
