Veracruz Governor Defends Teacher Accused of Harassment Over School Assignment

- October 13, 2026

XALAPA, Veracruz — The Governor of Veracruz, Rocío Nahle, has defended a teacher from Martínez de la Torre who faced allegations of harassment after requesting that students create a “croquis” (a sketch or map) as part of their school activities.

The case went viral on social media after a parent accused the educator of harassment for the assignment. However, Governor Nahle clarified that the teacher will not be suspended, emphasizing that the activity was aligned with the educational materials provided for the students.

“He will not be suspended,” Nahle stated. “I spoke with the Secretary of Education of Veracruz (SEV), Raquel Bonilla, and asked her to address the matter. I will always defend our teachers; they do a great job. These activities, such as creating a sketch, are part of what we have been trained in and are part of the school’s curriculum. It is important to protect the teacher. In this case, it is an injustice. If the parent did not agree with the activity, that is a separate matter, but the teacher must be allowed to continue his work.”

The governor also issued a call to parents and guardians to be more responsible and supportive of schools and teachers, urging them to avoid making unfounded accusations or slandering educators.

The incident sparked significant support within the teaching community, with many educators arguing that the sketch activity is a long-standing pedagogical tool used to help students understand their surroundings and improve safety by knowing their routes to and from school.
