New Cultural Funding Opportunity Targets Heritage Preservation and Digital Storytelling in Tamaulipas

- October 10, 2026

The government of Tamaulipas has launched a new call for proposals titled “Voices of Heritage and Historical Memory 2026,” aimed at preserving and promoting the state’s rich cultural legacy. The initiative seeks to fund projects that highlight the collective memory and cultural heritage of the diverse cities across the region.

Organized by the Secretary of Social Welfare and the Tamaulipeco Institute for Culture and the Arts, the call is open to a wide range of participants, including researchers, chroniclers, cultural managers, content creators, workshop leaders, and community collectives. Applicants must be at least 18 years old.

Diverse Participation Modalities

The competition offers several ways for participants to contribute, with two primary categories highlighted:

  • Digital Content Creation: This category focuses on producing social media content that showcases Tamaulipas’ history, traditions, gastronomy, music, local festivals, crafts, and architecture. Seven projects will be selected, and the winners will be required to produce five videos (ranging from one to three minutes each) and publish them across at least three public platforms.
  • Training Workshops and Community Labs: This modality targets individuals who can lead training for groups interested in historical preservation. Ten individuals will be selected to conduct a series of five in-person workshops, with each session lasting two hours for a total of 10 hours of activity.

Focus on Social Equity and Vulnerable Communities

A key priority of the “Voices of Heritage” initiative is to reach underserved populations. The government has stated that preference will be given to communities and cities with limited cultural infrastructure or those currently facing social vulnerability. This strategy aims to democratize access to cultural funding and strengthen the ownership of cultural heritage in the state’s most marginalized regions.
