Chiapas Showcases Artisanal Heritage and Global Ambitions at International Festival

- October 10, 2026

SAN CRISTÓBAL DE LAS CASAS, Mexico – The cultural and economic tapestry of Chiapas took center stage this week with the launch of the Third International Festival “México Chiapas Original.” Held at the Casa Mazariegos Convention Center in the historic heart of San Cristóbal de Las Casas, the event serves as a premier platform for the state to promote its rich tradition of handmade goods to a global audience.

The festival, organized by the Secretariat of Economy and Labor alongside the Marca Chiapas Regulatory Council, has gathered more than 50 entrepreneurs from across the state, including representatives from Chiapa de Corzo, Tapachula, Palenque, Tuxtla Gutiérrez, and San Cristóbal de Las Casas.

Celebrating Craftsmanship and Commerce
The exhibition features a diverse array of high-quality products that define the region’s identity, including:

Amber and Posh: Traditional materials prized for their craftsmanship.
Cacao and Coffee: Key agricultural exports of the region.
Handicrafts: A wide variety of items meticulously produced by local artisans.
In addition to the product showcases, the festival served as a ceremony to honor businesses that have achieved the “Marca Chiapas” distinction. This prestigious recognition was awarded to a range of enterprises, including hotels, restaurants, and producers who uphold the state’s standards of quality and cultural preservation.

A Strategy for Global Reach
The primary objective of the festival is to elevate Chiapas’ handmade products to international markets. By providing a space where local producers can interact directly with the public and potential trade partners, the government aims to establish a recognizable brand for the state’s artisanal economy.

San Cristóbal de Las Casas emerged as the most recognized municipality during this edition, followed by Tapachula, Tuxtla Gutiérrez, and Chiapa de Corzo.

Expanding the Circuit
The promotional tour is set to continue in the coming days with additional exhibitions in Tuxtla Gutiérrez and Tapachula. These upcoming events will invite a broader range of entrepreneurs from both within the state and other regions of Mexico to participate.

Complementing the physical exhibition, the festival will also feature a series of forums dedicated to economic development and the promotion of traditional crafts, ensuring that the “Chiapas Original” brand remains a competitive force in the international marketplace.
