During her visit to Baja California Sur, the head of the National Civil Protection Coordination (CNPC), Laura Velázquez Alzúa, presented an analysis and evaluation of hydrometeorological risks, noting that 27 flood-risk zones had been identified in the state.
At an extraordinary session of the State Civil Protection Council—attended by authorities from all three levels of government—Laura Velázquez explained that these areas are classified as critical points within Baja California Sur.
She emphasized that the National Water Commission (CONAGUA) has already issued a forecast warning of increased cyclonic activity for this hurricane season in the Pacific Ocean.
On average, 15 named cyclones occur annually; however, up to 21 are projected for 2026 due to the El Niño phenomenon.
Given this scenario, the CNPC head stressed the importance of the public being aware of the risk zones.

QUINTANA ROONEWS
This year’s summer season will be complicated, even more so than the already difficult 2025 season, acknowledged Bernardo Cueto Riestra, Secretary of Tourism for Quintana Roo. He emphasized that a significant factor is the global reduction in airline seats due to the increase in jet fuel prices, which puts the leading Caribbean destination on alert, in contrast to the boom experienced by its rival, Punta Cana.
“There’s a 10% reduction in available airline seats during these months, which will prevent us from.
