The cargo truck lost control on the La Pera curve, causing traffic chaos and a complete highway closure.

On Monday morning, a serious accident on the Mexico-Cuernavaca highway caused a complete closure of the road in both directions after a trailer overturned at the curve known as La Pera, at kilometer 66.

According to initial reports, the cargo truck, which was transporting plastic material, lost control and overturned on the asphalt, completely blocking the traffic lanes. This caused a total blockage on one of the busiest roads between Mexico City and Morelos.

The accident resulted in one fatality: a motorist lost his life after the trailer’s cargo box fell onto his vehicle. The victim was traveling in a private vehicle that was in the area at the time of the accident.

Although one person was initially reported injured, the death of the driver was later confirmed; his body was trapped after the impact. His identity has not yet been released.

The complete closure of the highway caused traffic chaos for several hours. Some motorists opted to return to Cuernavaca in the opposite direction due to the lack of passage.

Given the situation, Caminos y Puentes Federales (Capufe) opened the La Pera camp as an alternate route; however, heavy traffic was reported in that area. National Guard Highway Patrol officers directed traffic to try to expedite the flow.

However, on Tuesday, March 24, authorities announced that the Mexico-Cuernavaca Highway had reopened with lane reductions near La Pera after a semi-trailer truck overturned.

The La Pera curve is known for its danger due to its sharp curves, where accidents of this type are frequently recorded, especially with heavy cargo vehicles.
