The governor of Yucatán, Joaquín “Huacho” Díaz Mena, a member of the Morena political party, is facing scrutiny over the acquisition of more than 235 hectares of cattle ranching land in the eastern part of the state.

The properties were registered for approximately 1.4 million pesos, although their value ranges from 11 to 28 million pesos, raising questions about their origin.

Key details of the controversy:

Area: The land comprises 235 hectares, most of which were acquired recently, according to the Public Registry.

Location: The rural land is located in eastern Yucatán, specifically in the municipality of Panabá.

The acquisition took place while he held public office (previously as Delegate of Welfare), which has sparked debate about the transparency of his finances.

“Huacho” Díaz Mena defended the purchase, claiming that the funds came from his family’s long-standing cattle ranching business and that they are private resources, according to independent local media outlets such as Luces del Siglo.

Opposition groups point to a contradiction with the austerity principles championed by his party, Morena.

Furthermore, the governor has faced other agrarian conflicts, such as the dispute with ejido members in Dzununcán over 82 hectares.
