After showing symptoms of malaria, a passenger from India had to be evacuated from the Royal Caribbean cruise ship Harmony of the Seas while sailing off the coast of Isla Mujeres.
The operation was carried out by personnel from the Mexican Navy, with support from the Fifth Naval Region, who performed the high-priority medical evacuation 35 minutes from Isla Mujeres, following an emergency call from the cruise ship’s Chief Officer.
The report indicated that a male passenger, of Indian nationality, was experiencing a serious medical condition, diagnosed with malaria, high fever, and low platelet levels, making his immediate transfer to a hospital on land essential.
The patient was transferred from the cruise ship to Puerto Juárez, Quintana Roo, where an ambulance met him and transported him immediately to a local hospital for specialized medical care.
