Jessica Macedonio Saldaña, the health director of Atlixtac, Guerrero, and her assistant, Fulgencio Salgado Sánchez, were found shot to death on Monday, March 2nd, around eight in the morning, in a ditch along the Tlapa-Chilapa highway, near the community of Zoyapexco.
According to the Guerrero State Attorney General’s Office, both victims had gunshot wounds. Motorists traveling on the federal highway reported the discovery around 9:00 a.m., prompting a response from security forces and investigators.
Initial investigations indicate that the municipal official and her companion left Atlixtac around 5:00 a.m., heading towards Chilapa. Four hours later, they were found dead, and the state Attorney General’s Office has opened an investigation to clarify the circumstances of their deaths.
In a statement, the Atlixtac city council expressed its condolences for the murder of the Director of Health and her assistant, who were active members of the municipal administration.
Mayor Guillermo Matías Marrón requested that the relevant authorities conduct the necessary investigations to determine responsibility and act in accordance with the law. He stated that the municipal government will closely monitor the case in coordination with the competent authorities.
“Atlixtac is a municipality committed to peace, social stability, and respect for the rule of law. Therefore, any act that threatens the tranquility of our community must be investigated responsibly and in accordance with the law,” the statement reads.
For its part, the Attorney General’s Office indicated that it will continue with the investigation and will report on progress as procedural timelines allow, in strict adherence to due process. No arrests have been reported in connection with these events.
