The National Guard Official died in San Juan de los Lagos in the state of Jalisco.
Second Captain Leonel Cardoso, Coordinator of the National Guard’s Highway and Facilities Security Battalion in Aguascalientes, was killed in a car bomb attack this Sunday, February 22, in San Juan de los Lagos, Jalisco.
The attack occurred around 2:45 p.m., when federal agents were patrolling in response to reports of armed individuals traveling in a convoy.
Upon arriving at an unspecified location, the officers spotted a dark-colored pickup truck, from which two men exited and fled on foot.
According to the official report, when the units stopped, Captain Cardoso got out of his vehicle, and at that moment a powerful explosion was heard coming from the truck, which had been rigged as a car bomb.
The detonation left several officers unconscious, who were initially taken to a hospital in the Jalisco town.
