The wave of violence that began in Jalisco has spread to Zacatecas, with roadblocks using burning vehicles, as well as attacks and burning of Banco del Bienestar branches in the southern municipalities of the state.

The Secretary General of the State Government, Rodrigo Reyes Mugüerza, confirmed roadblocks on Federal Highway 54, Guadalajara-Zacatecas, near the municipalities of Juchipila, Jalpa, Tabasco, and Villanueva; as well as on Federal Highway 23 in the municipalities of Tlaltenango, Momax, and Teúl de González Ortega.

The road blockades, he said, “have already been or are being addressed” by security forces, especially the National Guard.

Reyes Mugüerza also confirmed attacks and fires at branches of the Banco del Bienestar (Bank of Well-being) in the municipalities of Apozol, Juchipila, Moyahua, Tabasco, and Teúl de González Ortega.

He clarified that the road blockade reported on social media in the municipality of Monte Escobedo did not occur in Zacatecas, but rather in the state of Jalisco.

He also denied a video allegedly showing heavy machinery damaging the Jalpa-Tlaltenango highway, stating that aerial patrols found no evidence of such incidents.

The secretary denied that a fire had occurred at a restaurant in the municipality of Moyahua, calling it false information. He urged the public to remain calm and verify information before sharing it.

Through social media, the municipalities of 17 towns in the southern region, bordering Jalisco, alerted residents to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel on highways to prevent putting their safety at risk.

In the southern region of the state, school classes will be held remotely this Monday, the state government secretary announced.

While reiterating the recommendation to the public to avoid unnecessary travel, especially in municipalities bordering Jalisco and Aguascalientes, he called for calm.

The state government reported that the Peacebuilding Committee will meet regularly to assess the security situation in the state following the violent events in Jalisco.
