A video showing serious structural damage to a highway recently inaugurated by Claudia Sheinbaum has gone viral on social media.

The Bavispe-Nuevo Casas Grandes highway, inaugurated by President Claudia Sheinbaum on January 31, 2016, in Sonora, is facing accusations on social media regarding alleged damage that is currently under investigation.

The project, which connects Sonora and Chihuahua, required an investment of 1.822 billion pesos and spans 134 km, aiming to boost the local economy.

Project details: The highway is 134 km long, has seven bridges and two interchanges, and was designed to improve connectivity in the Sierra Madre Occidental mountain range.

Videos circulating on social media suggest damage to the recently inaugurated infrastructure, although the allegations regarding the actual condition of the project are being verified.

The highway was presented by Claudia Sheinbaum as a project of social justice to connect historically isolated communities between Sonora and Chihuahua.

The inauguration took place three weeks ago, during a presidential working tour on January 31, 2026, to promote development in the region.
