MONTERREY, NUEVO LEÓN.- On Friday, February 20, José, a 14-year-old identified by authorities as “El Patines”, was formally charged for his alleged involvement in the femicide and forced disappearance of Brittany Nahomi, a 15-year-old girl from Monterrey. A judge in Nuevo León linked the teenager to the crimes after investigators confirmed that Brittany’s body was discovered last week in a vacant lot in the Barrio de la Industria neighborhood.
The victim had been reported missing days earlier, sparking a search that ended with the grim discovery. Forensic examinations established that Brittany died from a gunshot wound to the base of the skull. Her remains were found wrapped in plastic and hidden in an excavation site, according to the state prosecutor’s office.
Authorities have also carried out searches at the home of José, where investigators collected evidence to strengthen the case. Reports suggest that his mother could face charges as well, though officials have not yet confirmed her legal status.
The case has drawn widespread attention due to the ages of both the victim and the accused, highlighting the growing concern over violence against women and girls in Mexico. The Nuevo León prosecutor’s office, along with the specialized femicide unit, continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding Brittany’s disappearance and death.
José will remain in custody while the judicial process unfolds. The charges against him mark a significant step in the pursuit of justice for Brittany Nahomi, whose death has sparked outrage and renewed calls for stronger protections for minors and more effective measures against gender-based violence.
