A man accused of killing two people in Brockton, Massachusetts in spring 2025 was captured in Mexico on Thursday.

Davinci Leonard, 23, was charged with two counts of murder and one count each of discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, and carrying ammunition without an FID card.

He remains in custody in San Diego and will be extradited to Massachusetts.

According to Brockton police, Leonard fled Massachusetts after allegedly shooting and killing an 18-year-old Cevannah Alvarez and a 15-year-old Tymari Albertson during a fight at 500 Westgate Drive on March 22, 2025.

Authorities said Leonard got into a fight with Albertson outside a Chipotle restaurant, pulled a gun, and started shooting, hitting Albertson twice and Alvarez once.

Leonard has been on the run for nearly a year, with police even offering a hefty reward for his capture.

Detectives eventually tracked Leonard to Mexico, where he was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service and Mexican authorities on Feb. 12.

“This apprehension is a direct result of the seamless partnership between the U.S. Marshals Service and our national and international law enforcement partners,” said Acting U.S. Marshal Dennis Matulewicz for the District of Massachusetts.

Two other suspects face trial on lesser charges in the shootings.
