Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena presided over the laying of the first column for the construction of BBVA’s Southeast Division headquarters in Mérida.
He emphasized that the project consolidates Yucatán as a financial hub in the southeast and reflects the private sector’s confidence in the state’s stability, talent, and sustainable growth.
Yucatán demonstrates once again that it is a strategic location for investment and is consolidating its position as a financial center in the southeast, highlighted Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena, as he presided over the ceremony for the laying of the first column for the construction of BBVA’s Southeast Division headquarters in Mérida, from where this institution will coordinate operations for Yucatán, Quintana Roo, Campeche, Chiapas, and Tabasco.
Accompanied by the CEO and Vice President of BBVA Mexico, Eduardo Osuna Osuna, the Governor witnessed the start of construction on this regional operations center, which will be located in the office tower of the 60 Norte complex and will generate up to 1,200 jobs in the short term.
In his remarks, the Governor stated that choosing the state as its corporate headquarters represents an investment and a permanent presence, but also demonstrates confidence in the stability, technical capacity, and talent of the people of Yucatán.
He also emphasized that the construction of the 60 Norte complex represents a solid commitment to orderly growth, strengthens the local economy, and maintains economic benefits for the state, since 100% of the companies involved in this project are local.
The Governor explained that this complex will feature two residential towers with 108 apartments, two 10-story office towers, an international chain hotel, retail and service spaces, more than 15 restaurants, and over 30 service establishments, generating constant activity and opportunities for local suppliers.
For his part, the CEO and Vice President of BBVA Mexico, Eduardo Osuna Osuna, noted that the Southeast and Yucatán are a high priority for the institution, as they represent a significant growth opportunity stemming from an economy with great potential, a clear focus on tourism, services, and commerce, as well as a strong capacity to diversify and expand into new strategic sectors.
In turn, the Honorary Chairman of the BBVA Quintana Roo Board and owner of 60 Norte, José Chapur Zahoul, emphasized that this project by BBVA confirms its long-term commitment to remain in the Southeast to invest in and support regional development.
Also present at the event were the Vice President of the BBVA Peninsular Board and owner of 60 Norte, Víctor Abraham Palomo, and the Mayor of Mérida, Cecilia Patrón Laviada.
