In Mérida, Yucatán, on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, a man wanted by U.S. authorities for the crime of distributing images of a minor was located and arrested.

He had been a fugitive since 2007, the year he allegedly violated the terms of his probation and left the United States.

The detainee is Timothy “N”, 61 years old, originally from Georgia, USA, and wanted in connection with a case related to the aforementioned crime that occurred in the state of Florida.

The arrest was the result of several weeks of specialized intelligence work and field operations carried out by the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP), in direct coordination with U.S. law enforcement agencies and in collaboration with the National Institute of Migration.

The investigation included information analysis and tracking, cross-referencing profiles, and identity verification, which established that the individual resided in Mérida and was using false documents and identity.

The detainee was placed at the disposal of the competent authorities for the corresponding legal proceedings and the determination of his legal status.

The Secretariat of Public Security reiterates that in Yucatán there is no room for impunity and that inter-institutional coordination, methodology, and the use of technology are fundamental to preserving security.
